Aaron Watson, Texas’ sensational country music artist is bringing his signature sounds to Gramercy Theater!
James Aaron Watson was born in Amarillo (Texas) and is a country singer and songwriter. He began his musical journey by singing gospel hymns with his family in church and he learned to play the guitar while attending Abilene Christian University. He cites George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson as some of his earliest influences. He released his eponymous debut studio album in 1999 and both of his follow up albums (A Texas Café, Shutupanddance) were regional successes. He had a breakthrough in 2015 with his 11th studio album topping both of Billboard’s Top Country Albums and Independent Albums charts (and peaking at #14 on the US Billboard 200 chart). The album sold more than 26,000 copies in the first week alone, giving him the accolade of being the first independent male artist to debut at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart (with a self-released and independently distributed and promoted album). The album’s lead single (That Look) has become one of the best selling independent singles. He’s had a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 18 singles, 4 music videos, and he’s collaborated with many notable artists such as Willie Nelson, Ray Benson, Dale Watson, Jack Ingram, Elizabeth Cook and Bill Joe Shaver.
