Paul Bruce Dickinson was born in Worksop (Nottinghamshire, England) in 1958 and is a singer, songwriter, musician, airline pilot, entrepreneur, author, and broadcaster. Over the years, his musical style has spanned many genres such as hard rock (a loosely defined subgenre of rock music featuring heavy use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with pianos and keyboards), heavy metal (a subgenre of rock that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and features a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness), and pop metal (the least metallic variation of heavy metal, with huge, catchy hooks that borrowed heavily from the fist pumping choruses of arena rock). He's best known as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden and also for his wide-ranging operatic vocal style and energetic stage presence. He's also had a stellar solo career with 6 studio albums, 2 live albums, 1 compilation albums, 1 box set, 10 singles, 14 music videos, and 3 video albums. He's also hosted his own radio show on the BBC and written novels and film scripts.
