Sensational indie rock and neo psychedelia artists Circles Around the Sun are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramcery Theater!
Circles Around the Sun was formed in 2015 by guitarist/composer Neal Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne, and drummer Mark Levy. They got together to compose intermission music for Fare Thee Well; a series of reunion concerts played by the surviving members of the Grateful Dead during 2015. According to Neal, “...the idea was to not only show reverence for the past but to ultimately move it forward," adding "If there's anything to be learned from the Grateful Dead, it is to dissolve your boundaries, push your limits, and discover your own voice in this world.” Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegazing), instrumental rock, and neo psychedelia (a diverse style of music - originating in the 1970s as an outgrowth of the British post punk scene – that borrowed a variety of elements from 1960s psychedelic music and emphasized the cryptic margins of avant-rock, incorporating evanescent textures over an immutable bassline, producing a heavy metallic ambience).
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to indie rock, neo psychedelia, and instrumental rock music!
