Cult of Luna, Sweden’s sensational heavy metal artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Cult of Luna was formed in Umeå (Sweden) in 1998 by Magnus Líndberg, Johannes Persson, Klas Rydberg, and Erik Olofsson. They were former members of a hardcore punk band called Eclipse. The band’s been through many line up changes since then and it currently consists of Magnus (percussion and guitar), Johannes (guitars and vocals), Andreas Johansson (bass), Fredrik Kihlberg (guitar and vocals), Thomas Hedlund (drums), and Kristian Karlsson (vocals, keyboards, and samples). Over the years, their musical style has spanned many genres such as post metal (a stylistic fusion of heavy metal with post rock and/or shoegazing), sludge metal (a typically harsh and abrasive genre - blending elements of doom metal and hardcore punk - often featuring shouted or screamed vocals, heavily distorted instruments, and sharply contrasting tempos), and progressive metal (a fusion of heavy metal and progressive rock that combines the loud aggression and amplified guitar driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or pseudo classical compositions of the latter). They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 1 collaborative album (with American vocalist Julie Christmas), 3 live albums, 3 extended plays, 2 video albums, 1 audio book, and 4 music videos.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to post metal, sludge metal, and progressive metal!
