Inquisition, Colombia's sensational black metal artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Inquisition was formed (under the moniker Guillotine) in Cali (Colombia) in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Dagon. He moved to the United States in 1996 and recruited drummer Incubus and bassist Debandt to complete the line up. While they started off with thrash metal (an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its fast tempo and overall aggression, frequent use of fast percussive beats and low register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding style lead work, and lyrics often dealing with social issues and reproach for The Establishment), it wasn't long before they transitioned to black metal (an extreme subgenre and subculture of heavy metal music, featuring fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw/lo fi recording, and unconventional song structures). Dagon is heavily influenced by Baroque; a style - originating in Rome/Italy around 1600 - that uses exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in various art forms including music. They've had a stellar career with 7 studio albums, 3 extended plays, 1 demo tape, 1 compilation album, and 1 split album (with Profane Creation). The band's been through a few line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Dagon and Incubus.
Don't miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to black metal!
