Mark Lanegan Band, Washington’s sensational alternative rock artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Mark William Lanegan was born in Ellensburg in 1964 and began his musical journey in 1984 when he, along with guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bassist Van Conner, and drummer Mark Pickerel, formed the grunge band Screaming Trees. Along with Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Nirvana, the band became part of Seattle's emerging grunge scene in the early 1990s. The band surprisingly split up in 2000 after which Mark focused on his solo career. He has a distinctive baritone voice that’s been described by Pitchfork magazine as “scratchy as a three day beard yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather” and it’s been compared to legendary singer-songwriter and composer, Tom Waits. Mark has also collaborated with various artists and bands throughout his career, most notably with Kurt Cobain. Over the years, his musical style has spanned many genres such as grunge (a subgenre of alternative rock that fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, with lyrics that are typically angst filled, often addressing themes such as social alienation, apathy, confinement, and a desire for freedom), folk rock, and blues. He's had a stellar career with 10 studio albums.
Don’t miss your chance to see this artist with a fascinating solo career marked by an acoustic tone along with dark song-writing inspired by folk and blues!
