Stewart Ransom "Rhett" Miller II was born in Dallas in 1970 and is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and author. Over the years, his musical style has spanned many genres such as alternative country (a sub genre of country music that incorporates influences ranging from roots rock, bluegrass, rockabilly, honky-tonk, alternative rock, folk rock, and punk rock), indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), and adult alternative pop/rock (a branch of alternative rock - emerging after the genre's absorption into the mainstream – featuring a smooth, melodic, radio friendly style that packages alternative's mellower side for wider consumption). He's best known as the lead singer of the Old 97's and his solo career consists of 7 studio albums, 6 singles, and he's worked on various collaborations, including co-writing with other musicians. He's also written short stories, essays, and articles that have appeared in many renowned publications such as Rolling Stone, Bookforum, Sports Illustrated, McSweeney’s, The Atlantic, and Salon
