Stonebwoy, Ghana's sensational Afro pop artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Stonebwoy (birth name Livingstone Etse Satekla) was born in Ashaiman (Ghana) in 1988 and is a singer and songwriter. His musical style is best described as a blend of Afro pop (the music of the African diaspora, based on African musical traditions but also including American music and many Caribbean genres such as soca, calypso, and zouk), hiplife (a Ghanaian musical style that fuses Ghanaian culture and hip hop), reggae (while sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady), and dancehall (an uptempo style of dance music derived from reggae, in which a DJ improvises lyrics over a recorded backing track or to the accompaniment of live musicians). He's had a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 7 singles, and 10 music videos. He's received many accolades including a BET Award (for Best International Act: Africa), an African Muzik Magazine Award (for Best African Reggae, Ragga and Dancehall), 2 Ghana Music Awards (for Reggae/Dancehall Song Of The Year and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste Of The Year), and 8 Bass Awards.
