Sensational hip hop artists T-Pain and Smino are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Smino (birth name Chris Smith Jr.) was born in St. Louis in 1991 and is a rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was introduced to jazz, blues, and gospel music at an early age by his father (who plays the keyboard), mother (a singer), and grandfather (who played bass guitar for Blues Hall of Fame musician Muddy Waters). He began his musical journey at the age of 7 by playing drums in his local church’s band. It wasn’t long before he started rapping and he cites Kanye West and Dungeon Family (an Atlanta based hip hop collective specializing in Southern hip hop with heavy funk and soul influences) as his biggest influences. His musical style can be best described as a blend of hip hop, R&B, soul, and funk. He started his career by forming the duo (with friend Bari Allen) Young Dumb and Outta Control (YDOC). They released a mix tape after which Smino decided to pursue a solo career. He’s released a mix tape (SMEEZY DOT COM), 2 extended plays (S!Ck S!Ck S!Ck and blkjuptr), and his debut album (blkswn) has received critical acclaim and positive reviews. He’s been named New Artist of the Week by Apple Music.
Don’t miss your chance to see this artist add a unique touch to hip hop, R&B, soul, and funk music!
