The-Dream (birth name Terius Youngdell Nash) was born in Rockingham (North Carolina) in 1977 and is a singer, songwriter, and record producer. He began his musical journey at an early age by learning to the play the trumpet. His mother passed away when he was 15 years old and it led to him to taking up song writing. After finishing high school, he met R&B producer Laney Stewart who helped him sell his songs and it wasn't long before he got a publishing deal. He released his debut studio album (Love Hate) in 2007 and it received positive reviews (Rolling Stone called it "one of the most likable R&B records of the year"). His musical style is best described as a blend of contemporary R&B (a genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop, and dance), hip hop, and pop. He went on to have a stellar career with 5 more studio albums, 1 cover album, 3 extended plays, 10 singles, 8 music videos, a BET Award (for Best New Artist), a BET Hip-Hop Viewer's Choice Award, and 4 Grammy Awards (for Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration).
