Turnpike Troubadours, Oklahoma’s sensational country and roots rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Turnpike Troubadours were formed in eastern Oklahoma in 2007 by singer and guitarist Evan Felker, bassist R.C. Edwards, fiddler Kyle Nix, guitarist Ryan Engleman, and drummer Gabe Pearson. Their musical style can be best described as Red Dirt (a genre – named after the color of soil found in Oklahoma and popularized by the late Oklahoman singer/songwriter Bob Childers – that blends folk, rock, country, bluegrass, blues, Western swing, and honky tonk, and even a few Mexican influences) and it also includes elements of Cajun (the music of Louisiana that’s rooted in the ballads of the French speaking Acadians of Canada). Their style is often compared to authentic band such as Texas and Alabama and Evan said in an interview, “I take that as high praise and I feel like I am to some degree authentic. It’s easy to be a very fake person, especially in the entertainment business. I feel like everybody in this band is pretty much what you see is what you get. They’re not putting on an act. They might show off once in a while, you know, but that’s just what people do.” They’ve had a stellar career with 4 studio albums.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists merge folk, country, bluegrass, Cajun, and rock dynamics into a gritty, timeless blend!
