Uli Jon Roth (birth name Ulrich Roth) was born in Düsseldorf (West Germany) in 1954 and is a guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Over the years, his musical style has spanned many genres such as hard rock, heavy metal, psychedelic rock (a style of rock music - inspired or influenced by psychedelic culture - that attempts to replicate and enhance the mind altering experiences of psychedelic drugs, most notably LSD, by using novelty recording techniques, electronic instruments or effects), progressive rock (a broad sub genre of rock music that grew out of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk or classical music), and neoclassical metal (a sub genre of heavy metal that’s heavily influenced by classical music and usually features very technical playing, consisting of elements borrowed from both classical and speed metal music). He's best known as the former lead guitarist of German hard rock/heavy metal band The Scorpions and he's been a major influence on Kirk Hammett, Marty Friedman, Yngwie Malmsteen, and many other renowned guitarists.
