Wanting Qu was born in Harbin (Heilongjiang, China) in 1983 and is a singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist (piano, guitar, and electronic keyboard). Her musical style is best described as a blend of soul, pop rock (a genre that originated in the 1950s, influenced by the beat, arrangements, and style of rock and roll but with a greater emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft), R&B, synth pop (a sub genre of new wave music that rose to prominence in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument), and Chinese pop a.k.a C-pop (a loosely defined musical genre created by artists originating from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan). She’s had a stellar career with 3 studio albums (one of which went platinum in China within its first week on sale after release), 2 extended plays, and 14 singles. She's received many accolades including 3 Global Chinese Music Awards (Best Newcomer, Outstanding Regional Artist Award - Beijing, and Best Song), a Music Times Award (for Best Album of the Year), 4 Chinese Music Awards (for Best New Artist, Best New Original Artist, Best Music Composer, and Best Song). She's also starred in the 2014 Chinese comedy film Old Boys: The Way of the Dragon.
