Watain, Sweden's sensational black metal artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Gramercy Theater!
Watain was formed in Uppsala (Sweden) in 1998 and it currently consists of Erik Danielsson (vocals and bass), Håkan Jonsson (drums), Pelle Forsberg (guitar), and live members Set Teitan a.k.a Davide Totaro (guitar), Alvaro Lillo (bass), and H. Death (guitar). Their musical style is best described as a blend of black metal (an extreme subgenre and subculture of heavy metal music, featuring fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw/lo fi recording, and unconventional song structures) and Scandinavian metal (a genre that became a dominant force in the heavy metal underground during the '90s, with a reputation for producing some of the most extreme death and black metal ever recorded). They cite Bathory, Mayhem, Mercyful Fate, Death SS, Samael, and Necrovore as their main influences and their live shows are renowned for having satanic rituals, candles, pyrotechnics, and, limbs and bones of animal carcasses. They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums (2 of which were top 3 hits on the Swedish chart), 3 live albums, 1 box set, 3 extended plays, 4 singles (one of which as been certified Gold in Sweden), 3 demo tapes, 2 music videos, and 1 video album.
